Critical Care Hospital Ranking Methodology
A Comprehensive Framework for Evaluating Critical Care Hospital Institutions
Back to Critical Care Hospital RankingsResearch Methodology
The objective of this research was to compile a list of the Top Hospitals in different specialties.
Research Process
The research consisted of four major modules: Desk Research, Recommendations from Medical Experts, Patient Experience, and Hospital Factual & Quality Metrics. These were followed by a scientifically developed analysis and ranking process.
MODULE 1 | DESK RESEARCH
This module involved secondary research to generate a comprehensive list of hospitals using various sources such as:
- Internet, magazines, and other publications.
- Lists of hospitals from previous surveys (based on availability).
- Discussions with specialists to refine the list by adding or removing hospitals.
Since it is not feasible to compile an exhaustive list of all hospitals, respondents had the option to mention additional hospitals during the survey. This ensured that any hospital recognized by respondents had a chance to be included in the rankings.
MODULE 2 | RECOMMENDATIONS FROM MEDICAL EXPERTS
In this module, a structured questionnaire was administered to doctors specializing in Oncology, Nephrology, Urology, Cardiology, Pediatrics, Gynecology/Obstetrics, Neurology, Emergency & Trauma Care, and Gastroenterology/Hepatology. These experts evaluated hospitals based on multiple parameters, including infrastructure and quality of treatment.
- A total of 2000+ interviews were conducted
- Self-recommendations by doctors were not allowed.
MODULE 3 | PATIENT EXPERIENCE
A structured questionnaire was also administered to patients and their caregivers to assess hospitals based on their experiences. This covered parameters such as hospital infrastructure and quality of treatment.
- A total of 3000+ interviews were conducted
- Self-recommendations were not allowed.
Key Evaluation Areas:
- General satisfaction with the hospital
- Recommendation of the hospital
- Satisfaction with medical care
- Satisfaction with service and organization
MODULE 4 | HOSPITAL FACTUAL & QUALITY METRICS
A detailed questionnaire was sent to hospitals to collect factual information on various parameters, including infrastructure and quality of treatment. A total of 1200 hospitals were contacted for factual data collection.
ANALYSIS & FINAL RANKING OF TOP HOSPITALS
A rigorous statistical analysis was conducted to determine the final rankings using both factual and perceptual data:
1. Factual Score
- Information was collected on similar parameters as the perceptual survey.
- A detailed scoring system was developed for each parameter.
- Raw scores were calculated and weighted based on their importance.
- The final entity score was derived from the weighted scores.
2. Perceptual Score
- Ratings were assigned based on expert and patient feedback.
- A regression model was used to determine the importance of various parameters.
- Raw scores and weighted scores were calculated for each parameter.
- An overall score was assigned to each hospital.
Final Score Calculation
- The final score for each hospital was a weighted average of its Perception Score and Factual Score.
- Scores were normalized, and rankings were determined accordingly.
Caveats & Assumptions
- Government, partially government-funded, not-for-profit, and charitable trust-funded hospitals were not included in the ranking.
- Hospitals that did not submit a complete fact sheet within the deadline were assigned an average factual score.
- If the GAP between Hospitals is found low, both hospitals are awarded the same rank.
The results of this ranking should not be used as the sole source of information for future deliberations. The information provided in this ranking should be considered in conjunction with other available information about hospitals the quality of hospitals that are not included in the rankings is not disputed.
